In loving memory of Jill Burton who sadly passed away peacefully in her sleep on 10th August 2022.
A proud Yorkshire girl, born in Bingley and the second of six siblings whose family home was in Menston, Ilkley. From being a young girl, Jill always wanted to be a nurse, starting at 16 at Wharfedale Children's Hospital and going on to train at St James's Hospital in Leeds. After meeting David and marrying in 1969, she took the brave step of moving 'down south', to south London and Surrey.
While looking for more space for a growing family, Jill instantly fell in love with Brockham while crossing the bridge on a sunny winter’s day and vowed to make this her home for life. The Burtons have lived in Oakdene Close since 1975 and Jill was soon involved in a number of aspects of village life, serving on committees, helping out with activities where she could and enjoying the village's rich social life.
Alongside bringing up a family, Jill continued nursing until retiring in 2010 after many years as a practice nurse in Tadworth.
She was justly proud of her three sons, all of whom attended the Brockham village school and the Ashcombe School in Dorking – Jon, Matt (who still lives in Brockham) and Nick (who sadly died in 2020) – and their partners and five grandchildren.
She will be greatly - and fondly - missed by all who knew her – and ‘Burton Corner’ in Brockham's Grumpy Mole will be missing an angel!
