In loving memory of Derek Nathaniel Johnson, a kind, loving, hard-working, sociable person who was taken from his loved ones suddenly on 7th August 2022.

Known and loved by many people from all walks of life, Derek was someone you could count on in a crisis as well as being the life and soul of any party. He lit up a room with his ever present smile but at the same time, didn't suffer fools gladly.

He loved sports and was a popular member of two football teams as well as a cricket team. For him, playing sports was a way to spend time with old friends and travelling around the world was a way to make new ones.

He loved family and always made time to be around immediate and extended family as much as he could.
He gave his all to his job at BT, completing 43 years service before retiring . His was to enjoy more leisure time with his partner, Christine, whilst also supporting their three children, as they begin to make their mark on the world.

Sadly, this was not to be as he passed away unexpectedly within days of retiring. He will be greatly missed - the world has lost a true gentleman.

Please help us to keep him alive in our hearts by taking the time to share a memory of Derek, here.

Thank you.

To my special friend,
You were always such a special friend,
So loyal, kind and dear,
My heart is filled with sadness
Knowing you’re no longer here.

I miss you more than ever,
Why did you have to leave?
I think of you and hope you knew
How much your friendship meant to me

Now, I’m here without you
Remember happy times we shared
So much joy and laughter
And the way you truly cared

I will never forget you,
A friend like you is hard to find
You had so many lovely qualities
I feel blessed that you were my special friend.

Dear Christine & Family
It is with deep sorrow that I learned of Derek's Death.
He was known for his infectious smile, signature laugh, disarming demeanour and his larger than life personality.
At Cricket during the water break he would run to the boundary to ask me if I was OK.
I will surely miss him since I loved him as a Nephew.RIP

Having known Derek for a number of years, spending a lot of time supporting two of our loves of football and cricket. I was fortunate enough to have spent a few years during the summer cricket coaching with him at the Bank of England. Also providing him with the odd ticket to watch Tottenham play away in the North West.
A truly more genuine person you could not meet, I’ll miss your smile, and your always nice greeting whenever we met or communicated.
Condolences to the Family and all your loved ones

RIEP Derek
