In loving memory of Ruby Bristow who sadly passed away on 30th July 2022.

My mum Ruby or Jean,as some of you knew her, was born on 23rd March 1933, the middle daughter of Julia and James Carr. She had 2 sisters, Eileen the eldest and Joanie. She grew up opposite Burgess Park in South-East London on the Walworth Road. She was evacuated during the Second World War with her sister Eileen to the Lady of the Manor’s house in Honiton, Devon because she thought they were polite, well-brought up children. They were treated really well with their own nursery and servants but all my mum wanted was her mum, though she had wonderful memories of her time there. She went back on her honeymoon I think and me and Tom bought her back a few year’s ago when we went on holiday together. She met my dad when out dancing and she played hard to get for quite a few weeks before she agreed to go out with him, but he was the love of her life and they had a great marriage and were very loving parents to me. I knew how lucky I was to have them and I have lovely memories of times spent together. My mum was always caring, loving and kind. She cared for her dad when she was 15 and he was dying, then my Nan and then my dad. She worked hard, doing two jobs, as well as caring for my Nan and us. She loved her job, having taught many children to read. She loved her friends and her family. So feel free here to share photos, memories of happy times spent and leave any messages should you so wish. I couldn’t stop adding photos so my apologies that there are so many! Much love. Lindsey and family xxxx

I would like to send my condolences to all of Ruby's loved ones. I lived in the house next door for a couple of years, and I got to know Ruby as the lovely lady who was always there to assist us with any kind of questions or help. I cherish the Christmas cards she prepared for us every year, which was such a nice gesture.

We loved to talk about her garden, that she always kept green and tidy. She was a lovely lady, with so much positive energy, for everyone in her life. I will cherish those memories.

My deepest condolences,
Jonas

  • Thanks too for your donation. We had a guide dog puppy years ago called Tally who we got back later when she retired. Mum loved her very much so it seemed the right charity for donations. Xx

There are no words to describe the loss of my lovely Ruby, my adopted grandmother. I have always dreamt of growing up to be able to come over to my grandmother and buy her presents, take her places, tell her the stories and do many other exciting things with her. Sadly, she passed away when I was just 13 and she was the only grandmother I’ve ever known.

Over 20 years have passed since then and I was blessed to have met Ruby. A life has given me another chance to have a grandmother in my life again, my adopted grandmother. We quickly bonded as neighbours and it was so great to have Ruby next door. Pandemic has brought us even closer. We shared so many laughs, long chats and stories, food, drinks, love of gardening, trying on some new dresses and then deciding to either keep them or return, this is just to name a few! We’ve discovered new treats from Sainsbury’s deliveries – Muscat grapes! I had accidently ordered them to try and then shared some with Ruby. She fell in love with these grapes and kept asking me to re-order! Muscat grapes will forever remind me of Ruby!

I have always loved Ruby’s garden, she kept it immaculate and her amazing jasmine received so many compliments from passers-by admiring her well-kept fence.
The love and care Ruby had for everyone was sincere, deep and endless. She’s always been extremely proud of Lindsey, her family, and all other family members, all grandchildren great-grandchildren. And it was wonderful to get to know the family.

I have always thought to myself that if I can live this long, look so great and have so much love for life like Ruby did, I’ll be the luckiest person in the world. She was fair, passionate and feisty!

I am forever grateful that I had been given another chance in my life to have an adopted grandmother, and I couldn’t have wished for a better grandmother.

Thank you, my lovely Ruby, my adopted grandmother, for being in my life. I will always love and remember you.
Lots of love, Svetlana XXX
