Funeral Director
In loving memory of Daphne Champion who sadly passed away on 19th July 2022 in Southend Hospital.
Funeral Service at Basildon Crematorium, on Friday 2nd September at 1pm and afterwards all friends welcome at The Gun, Bowers Gifford. Family flowers only but any donations to The Donkey Sanctuary, of which she was an enthusiastic supporter would be greatly appreciated.
Daphne spent her entire life in Thundersley. Her three homes were within a mile of each other - her childhood home in Rayleigh Road, followed by the cottage she moved into upon marriage to Gerry and finally, their own home, built in 1956. Though, she always enjoyed the family holidays, in particular time spent in Cornwall, she was always happy to be ‘back home’.
Family was everything to Daphne, her love for both John and Joanne and her grandson, Alessandro had no boundaries. Family always included a dog too. From Mickey the cocker spaniel, to the west Highland Terriers, Heidi, Gemma and Jemma. All held a special place in her heart as did her friends. All wildlife visitors (with the exception of snakes!) were also welcomed to the garden and fed. Squirrels waited patiently for biscuits, while the fox had a nightly dinner reservation of 6pm.
A work ethic was important to Daphne. Always in the legal profession, initially for a Solicitors in Southend-on-Sea, before joining Heard and Coleman in Hadleigh where she worked for over twenty five years. In the early 1980’s she joined the Legal Department at Castle Point District Council until her retirement, in 1997.
The overwhelming sentiment is Daphne, was always kind, thoughtful and generous.
She will be sadly missed.
