My heart bleeds knowing I found her too late. This is news to me as I intended to her to let her know what a wonderful caring foster mother she was to me in the 80s to the early 90s. I will always remember her fondly and the time I spent with her at Burton Joyce.

In loving memory of Pamela Sykes who sadly passed away on 16th July 2022.
Pamela June Sykes was without a doubt one of the most wonderful story tellers you could find. Her life was lived to the fullest.
From a young age Pam made friends easily, loved animals whole heartedly, and knew the proper way to conduct herself.
It would be remiss to neglect to mention the adoration Pamela held for her own father whom she believed to be her guardian angel. From the day of his passing to the day of hers she carried him with her every where she went - and she famously visited very many places.
Pam met Pete in 1958, enticing him to her colourful view of the world with a box of baby mice and sealing the deal with excellent style on the ice skating rink. They married quickly and built a wonderful life over 64 years of wedded bliss. The bliss part of equation, Pete was fortunate enough to know, meant that Pam would always be the boss.
Whether that life took them around the world - anywhere from Spain to Russia or exploring the delights of the UK via caravan - Pam always had something planned for the pair. In any corner of this world she graced with her presence you would be hard pressed to find a person that wasn't a fan of the sparkly eyed, well dressed wonder that was Pamela June Sykes.
People will often say when someone leaves us that they they leave behind a legacy. Well no cliché could ring truer for the Sykes Family Matriarch.
Pam leaves behind a legacy in;
- The husband that loves her beyond the 64 years of marriage,
- The daughters that inherited her wink,
- The brothers that will always know who the boss is,
- The grandchildren that inherited her sense of humour, however dangerous it might be,
- The friends that were always left feeling a little happier after a game of cards and a drink
- The great grandchildren that will always know of her vivacious spirit.
For the rest of our lives we will strive to honour her in the best way possible: a glass of martini in one hand, planning a trip with the other, a quick wink at a new friend and a loving animal on our laps.
In the spirit of this should you wish to make a donation to the Donkey Sanctuary in Pamela's name to which she donated to for many years herself the family would be forever grateful.
The funeral will be held at Gedling Crematorium on the 18th of August with a wake held at the Elwes Arms following on from the service. If you would like to join us to honour Pam, raise a glass and share a memory then we shall welcome you with open arms, just as she would have done.
