In loving memory of John Edwards who sadly passed away on 22nd July 2022.
For all of you who knew John, you already know what a kind, caring and wonderful person he was. He loved a chat and would speak with anyone - especially if it involved talking about family, cars, football or rugby.
John was born in Plymouth on 12th June 1946. He married the love of his life Val there, and raised his 3 children; Maxine, Paul and Claire there.
He enjoyed many weekends playing football (when footballers were allowed to tackle, and he enjoyed a tackle!!), then afterwards following his son Paul around the country watching him play.
When his children were small, he used to pack them and their friends (sometimes 10 or so!) into his Ford Cortina estate and drive up onto Dartmoor for the day, climbing Tors and playing cricket. Money was tight but usually stretched to an ice cream.
When the children were older, John and Val enjoyed trips away, including to their favourite spots in Scotland. Sadly, he lost his darling Val to cancer when she was just 52yrs old and it left John devastated.
John moved to Gloucester to live with Claire and her family, and then onto Northamptonshire with them. It was then his adventures abroad began, which he looked forward to and loved and he felt so blessed to have been able to visit so many new places.
John was blessed with 7 grandchildren and most recently a great grandson Theodore who he loved.
John made so many wonderful new friends; from children and parents at his grand children's schools in Gloucester and Rothersthorpe (all knew him as Grandad John) to the people at Ollie's football and rugby clubs. More recently, the family bought a second home in Spain and once again John made some wonderful new friends whilst there enjoying several holidays.
John will be missed by so many people for many different reasons, but his caring and compassionate nature, along with his fun outlook will be top of most peoples list.
