John MULLEN , known to all as Bruno sadly passed away peacefully on 9th July 2022 with his beloved wife, Eileen by his side.
Bruno was born 4 October 1937 in Cootehill, County Cavan, Eire. To Kathleen & Michael MULLEN, who ran a successful furniture factory and undertakers business. He was one of 15, which included three sets of twins, of which he was a twin. He leaves behind his much loved wife, Eileen and four children, Richard, Sharon, Rebecca and Michael and beloved grandchildren, Elliot, Rory, Luis, Mackenzie, Jose, Tilly and Marcus and six siblings, including his twin, Joe MULLEN.
Bruno came to England aged 15 in 1952 and headed straight to London. There he worked in several high-end hotels including The Savoy Hotel.
He headed up to Nottingham to be near his siblings in 1954 and worked as a steel erector for many years on the pylons.
In 1969 his much loved brother Tommy came to Nottingham, lived with him and Eileen and they created an inseparable partnership and formed MULLEN brothers, a painting and decorating business. Together they secured contracts, working at British Road Service, Ibstock Brick and Meridian textiles. Wherever Bruno was Tommy wasn’t far behind, they were a force to be reckoned with and had the most amazing brotherly bond.
Bruno and Eileen met in 1962 married in 1965 and had over 56 loving years together, they had four children, eight grandchildren whom he truly adored.
He was a Irish man who proud of his roots and instilled his faiths and heritage in us all.
He was a hard working man who lead a simple life. His love in life was watching Nottingham Forest FC and was a season ticket holder for many years. Watching Forest is when your saw his passion and often a strong word or two, usually at the referee when he made a bad decision against his beloved Forest.
His other love was taking his daughters horse riding. Up at the crack of dawn, grooming and preparing them for day ahead at the local gymkhana’s.
In older age he loved to pottering around his garden and often had strangers walking passed, commenting and admiring his beautiful garden.
Our amazing mum cared for him in his final months and the love they had for each other was clear for all to see.
The family would like to thank all those that have sent a message, card, flowers and even a handshake and offering your respects. It has been very much appreciated and helped us through this dark time, thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
We realise people are working but everyone is welcome to attend any part of the services or even join us for a drink after.
