Dear all

I'm very sorry to inform you that Alan died suddenly, but peacefully at home, on June 23rd.

You will see on this page details of the funeral arrangements if you wish to attend.

We would appreciate if you could use the attendance tab on the obituary to let us know if you are able to come.

Following the funeral service everyone is invited to join us at a sit down buffet lunch (with vegetarian options) at the Derek Randall suite at Nottingham County Cricket Club, Trent Bridge, West Bridgford, Nottingham NG2 6AG. The club is about a 20 minute drive from Gedling Crematorium. Again, it would be very helpful for planning purposes if you could let us know whether or not you are able to attend the lunch by leaving a message on this memorial page or letting Helen know directly by Mon 11th July. Also please let us know of any special dietary requirements / allergies.

We have been allocated only 15 spaces within the club grounds themselves but there is plenty of available parking in the local area including unrestricted parking in some of the nearby streets and several pay and display carparks in West Bridgford town centre, which is a 5-10 minute walk away.

For those who are unable to attend you can join us via a live streaming video or download the video to watch at a later time. Please see link below:

I found out about Alan's (Dr Lee) death recently through seeing an obituary from The Royal College of Psychiatrists. I was very sad to hear of it. He was always a very kind and insightful man, and I learnt a great deal from being a social worker in his team in Nottingham. I remember most of all how witty he was, he was one of the funniest people I ever met. R.I.P

1971 at Newcastle Medical School and many of us have great memories of being dragooned into Alan's "Jug Band" and playing at a few concerts. Alan was almost semi-professional which was not what could be said about the rest of us. However, he never gave up or criticised, always had a smile and somehow ensured we made a noise that was actually reasonable and that we enjoyed ourselves. Many in that year will not forget that experience and we sort of looked up to him because he was so "mature". He was the perfect example as to why entry to medical school should not just be for 18 year olds. Our 51st reunion is in September and Alan was planning to come. Now it will be our duty to remember him on the evening with great fondness. 51 years later, it is wonderful to read how much of a difference he made to so many people's lives.

In memory of a wonderful friend, A brilliant psychiatrist and a polymath, equally at home in ancient Greek philosophy and Wittgenstein. You are much missed.

Allie, my uncle, godfather, and friend. I will miss you more than you will know. We had so much fun over the last 30 years from test cricket and driving in sports cars to listening to rock and roll and debating politics, we had great fun while we did it. Thank you for being such a fantastic mentor. I will miss you dearly. Thinking of you always. Paddy
