In loving memory of Philip Edward 'Pip' Rich who sadly passed away on 1st June 2022, aged 75 years.

Pip was youngest ever appointed District Commissioner of Scouts and served in that role for 27 years at the old Westcliff District in South East Essex
He had many other roles in Scouting:-
including Service Team Leader of the MASH crew, as a part of that was Services leader for several Essex Jamborees and was on the organising committee. He did lots of service work at Belchamps Scout camp site.
He was the stage manager and was involved in the Southend Scouts and Guides Gang show
He was an instigator and organiser of the County Scout Marathon
He was drum instructor at the 1st Westcliff Scout Band
There were many other Scouting activities he was involved with

Pip was also a sailor and had a great love of the sea,
He owned a sailing yacht and was a long serving member of the Macwester Owners Association committee and held all the officer positions including 3 year term as Commodore - and organised many Macmeets and AGMs
when he joined the Island Yacht Club he quickly became Moorings Officer , ran the accounts of the work party and did the paperwork. He took part in the work parties

Pip was a litographic printer and was a trustee of his firms pension fund

Pip had a wide range of knowledge (excellent on a quiz time) both intellectual and practical. He was well read and informed.
He would do anything he was able to help others and guide them

He had a huge zest for life -
had a great love of music including Military and Band music

the above is just some of the things he did - there is much else he did that I am sure many people will remember him for
Please remember him as you knew him, and how he was in your world. Please celebrate a life well lived

Phil was my mentor at the IYC and I could not have hoped for a better person to encourage me through those first six months. He had a brilliant wit and endless stories/experiences that he regaled us with in the tea hut. Although our friendship was, sadly, not to be for long I was very proud to have known him.
Rest in peace Phil.
