I have many happy memories of Val over the years and will remember her with affection and try to emulate her sincere love for Jesus, her gentleness and her tender heart. I never once heard her say a harsh word about anyone and she was very humble about her own abilities.
In 1989 she put her great typing skills to very good use and produced the "Canford Cook Book" of tried and tested recipes, to help raise money for our son John to take part in a short term project with Latin Link in Argentina. They were so popular, selling for £1 and we had to do a second print, making £400 in total!
Also our families had a great holiday together on Mudeford Spit, staying for a week in Beach huts and enjoying windsurfing and the open air life.
Now we love to think of her "promoted to glory" as Mike, our minister puts it.
When God sends forth a spotless soul
To learn the ways of earth,
A Mother's love is waiting here;
We call this wonder Birth.
When God calls home a tired soul,
And stills a fitful breath,
Love Divine is waiting there,
This, too, is Birth, not death.
