Sandy Macgowan (8 Aug 1942 - 21 May 2022)

In loving memory of Sandy Macgowan who sadly passed away on 21st May 2022, aged 79 years.

SOS Perrera De Los Barrios is a shelter funded entirely by kind donations to rescue all the abandoned dogs taken in by the pound in Los Barrios, Cádiz, Southern Spain.
The dogs that predominately arrive at the pound are hunting dogs and bull breeds.
This shelter is one of the few that take on these bull breeds which can make the most loving companions but are totally discriminated against.
In Spain, these breeds, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Pitbull's, American bull terriers all need a licence and insurance which puts most people off adopting them. Hence the shelter is full of these breeds.
They can stay in the shelter for many years as a healthy dog is never put to sleep.

We are raising funds to build a new shelter where the dogs will have much better facilities so they can live in peace and happiness in the hope that one day they will be adopted.

Staffies and pitbull types were very close to mum's heart as she had them as her own rescues.
She loved them and knew what a loving and sometimes misunderstood breed they were. Mum gave to tens of different charities throughout her life, and this is one she loved and wished she could have volunteered at.
