My First memory is visiting you and Ann as Mark’s new girlfriend. You were a charming and hospitable host and happy to include me as part of the family. You became my father -in-law 3 years later and later still the grandfather to our two children. You have been a wonderful father in law and grandfather, always displaying your affection and a keenness to encourage new experiences and an enquiring mind. You were also always ready to engage in lively discussions about politics with a cheeky smile! You and Ann hosted regular family gatherings and it was always a delight to be a guest at your table, to experience new tastes and engage in noisy family banter and occasionally witness you and Ann jiving to trad jazz after dinner. I also have very many special memories of our holidays with you and Ann in France and the wonderful experiences we enjoyed with you and your French neighbours notwithstanding my complete hopelessness in trying to translate the French chatter into English….
For me, I will remember you as head of the table, looking around you with a lovely smile on your face and obvious pride and joy for your family.
We will all miss you hugely. RIP Jim xxx
