In loving memory of Des Harrison who sadly passed away on 14th May 2022.
Des spent a large part of his childhood being brought up by his Mother at the time of the second World War, and this included spending a few years at a boarding school in India, before returning to the UK.
Des met Maureen on a blind date in London, and she quickly became the ‘love of his life’. They married in 1956, and were happily together for an amazing total of 66 years.
Having married Maureen, Des was keen to have a family and became the proud father of Janet and Richard. He worked hard all of his life to provide for his family, as a British Telecomm engineer, before he retired in 1992. He later became the loving grandfather to Emily, Rebecca and Melissa, who all adored him for his life stories and fun nature.
Des was fortunate to enjoy a long retirement with Maureen pursuing their love of the water through their passion for sailing. He was a keen member of Medway Yacht Club for many years where he kept his precious yacht.
He also enjoyed clay pigeon shooting and badminton for which he was a member of the respective clubs.
Des was always sociable and loved to chat to different people. Even towards the latter part of his life when he had dementia, he enjoyed his time at the local Dementia Group, which became a lifeline for both Maureen and Des.
Des will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his love of people, his sense of humour which never faded, and his enthusiasm for the sea.
