In loving memory of Hazel Sharif who sadly passed away on Saturday 7th May 2022, aged 90 years.
Loving wife, sister and mother, will be greatly missed by family and many friends.
Hazel was born on the 7th January 1932 and her first memory was of her father going of to war in 1939, he was not to return until after the war had ended. Hazel won a scholarship to high school and after the war had ended she gained a sister in 1946, Sue, who she used to take for walks out and treat as though she, Hazel was her mum! Hazel left school early to go and work for the Inland Revenue with her friend Jeanne. Later they both lived and worked in London and enjoyed going dancing or to the cinema. Eventually Hazel got a job with an accommodation bureau, became their top interviewer and was introduced to her future husband, Ivor. In July 1961 they were married and some time after went to Germany as Ivor was in the army. After returning from Germany home was eventually set up in Derby and many of you will know the rest!

To Ivor. We lost contact many years ago and I often wondered where you were, however, I have just discovered the Obituary for you wife Hazel and want to send you my condolences for your loss. It is nice to know that you have had a very happy life with Hazel. She seems to have been a lovely lady. Kind thoughts are with you. From your (Half Sister). Margaret

I miss having a sister to chat to, we were very different in lots of ways but had a lot of shared interests ,we both loved our gardens, this poem by an unknown author seems fitting-
God looked around his garden
and found an empty place
He then looked down upon the earth
and saw your tired face

He put his arms around you
and lifted you to rest
Gods garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best

He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again

He saw the road was getting rough
and the hills were hard to climb
So he closed your weary eyelids
and whispered "Peace be thine"

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you did not go alone...
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home xx Sue

Gods garden must be beautiful

I have very happy memories of over 80 years of friendship. We met during the war in 1939. We lived 2 doors apart and went to school together throughout the war and after.

We stayed friends forever even when far apart.

We both worked for the Tupperware company when Hazel returned from Germany and we visited the family in Derby when they moved there.

I continued to meet Hazel in Basingstoke whilst visiting her parents until they sadly passed away. More recently I have kept in touch via the phone regularly and will miss our chats now she has gone.
With lots of love
Joy xxx

Your smile that shone through your eyes when talking of bygone days, of your beloved Mum and Dad - Cyril and George Jennings; of Susan, your sister, the little house in New Road, Basingstoke where you were brought up in. The hardships of the World War when you were small.

The unswerving love and appreciation you had for those that you surrounded yourself.

The undying love and devotion you gave to your husband Ivor who you nurtured and looked after for 60 years, his son Zain and eventually your own, Martin.

The home you ran with pride and efficiency.

Your enjoyment of a riotous garden in full bloom and the limitless energy you expended in achieving it.

Your love of exploring beautiful scenery in the countryside both locally and in Europe and organising those trips for those like minded friends. Your selflessness in making those now sadly passed on friends lives so much easier through your friendship, generosity and compassion.

The walks you led with many of those friends in your rambling days, in the sunshine of summer.

Your unbounded love for Gigi, Fluff, Gina, Oliver, Sidney & Pebbles. Surely the most spoiled cats ever.

Your 10 years voluntary work for charity in the final decade . A job you adored into your late eighties and only reluctantly relinquished due Covid-19 then when your years caught up with you and frailty became your enemy.

All these things we remember when we reflect on the honour of knowing you. How fortunate we were to have you in our lives.

So now that we find that the sun is a little less bright without you, we are nonetheless blessed with having known you Hazel and will find those missing rays when we think of you.
We love and honour you in remembrance of what a wonderful person you were and will forever hold you dear in our hearts.
