In loving memory of Philip Osborne who sadly passed away on 8th May 2022.

In November 2020, Phil was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had surgery in December that year. After the surgery, it was discovered that the tumor he suffered from was terminal. He underwent radiotherapy and chemo and completed the treatment in August 2021. In early November, he relocated to the UK where he was happy to be with his family and friends.

All along Phil had braved his condition with positivity and a sense of humour. Throughout his illness, he was able to maintain a relatively independent life. He had seizures in January and was sent to hospital. Sadly, the MRI results showed that the cancer had come back and he was told he had only weeks or months left.

As always, Phil's strength never failed to surprise us and he regained his mobility soon after the seizures. However, with his poor prognosis, his condition deteriorated quickly in April and he was confined to bed from then on.

Thanks to the continued and unfailing support from the Mountbatten nurses and carers, Phil was able to stay at home until 8 May 2022 when he passed peacefully in his sleep with myself and his family by his side.

For those who knew Phil, please remember him for his dedication to his teaching, his great sense of humour, his strong character, and his love for his family and friends.

With love
Wendy

  • Same here. He is always in my thoughts. The deep sorrow of losing him hits me so hard at times that I find it unbearable.

I will remember when we all went to Bangkok together during our younger, salad days. That was in Sukhumvit with Phyllis, if you recall. Fun days, fun times. Shocked that you decided to leave HK but I believe it was the right decision to come closer to the family
Hopefully, you'll now be at peace.

I will never forget the time Oz asked us if we would like to have a Sunday roast chicken dinner together.
Having never been invited to Oz’s place for dinner before, I tentatively suggested, “How about this Sunday?”.
“Perfect” he replied, “I’ll be over at 6”!
Haha…Classic Oz.
There was never a dull moment when Oz was around, always with beer in hand and a great laugh as well.
We will miss you dearly Oz…best friend to Zina and godfather to Zoe.
So sorry to Wendy and family for your loss.
Rest well my dear friend.

My best friend for more than 25 years, godfather to my daughter, a huge piece of my life has gone, and I miss you no end. I will always remember our bad jokes, your leather waistcoat and bad attitude. You cared for me as your sister, I will see you in the afterlife.

Always a joy to have a drink and a laugh with you Oz. I'm sorry for your loss Wendy, and to all that he was close to. He will be missed but no doubt he's causing trouble on the other side 😁💞

I was very sad to hear about Ozzie. I too knew him through Saturday hikers and recall the drama of the broken leg! He was always at the front of the hike whilst I was smelling the flowers on the way, but he was such a laugh afterwards in the pub (when the rest of us caught up!). Rest in Peace Ozzie. Condolences to Wendy and family.

I remember Ozzie from the Saturday Hikers hiking group in Hong Kong. He was a lot of fun and hiked with us in the early 2000s. He once broke his leg on a hike from recollection! Sending deepest condolences to Wendy and his family

I am very sad to hear of Phil's passing. I knew him many years ago in Hong Kong where we would hike with the Saturday Hikers group. He was indeed a larger than life character and a lovely bloke. I always enjoyed his company and could never keep up with him on hikes! Thinking of you mate, John T (Melbourne, Australia)

Uncle Phil,

You never say no to helping me. Not limited to teaching me English, but also telling me how to equip myself for the future. I remember in the last few months, even though your language was not as sharp as you used to be, you still tried to organize yourself and gave me suggestions for job applications. You are such a generous person, and always eager to help people around you. I am thankful and honored for being your nephew.

With respect,

Man Ho

Even though we only got to spend 2 lessons with him, it was one of the most memorable and worthwhile English lessons I've ever had, and I'm sorry that we didn't get to spend more time with Mr. Osborne
