With pleasant views across the Dorset and Somerset countryside, Higher Ground Meadow is a natural burial site in Dorchester, Dorset. The family-run burial site has won the People’s Awards for the Best Natural Burial Ground in the UK for three consecutive years in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Offering natural burial plots and the interment and scattering of ashes, this Dorchester woodland burial site offers an informal and relaxed environment for a green funeral.

You can choose for a green burial in Higher Ground’s wildflower meadow or in its woodland area which is home to a number of native shrubs and trees including crab apple, oak, silver birch, mountain ash, hazel, holly, hawthorne and spindle.

Any type of service or ceremony can be organised at Higher Ground Meadow – from a simple graveside funeral, to a religious celebration or a wake that can be held at the barn.

Only biodegradable materials can be used for burials and they are able to recommend suppliers who specialise in coffins made from wool, cane, bamboo, pine, willow and cardboard.
