The local service provided by our funeral director and his team at Benwell House, Benwell Lane, Newcastle upon Tyne was excellent and restored my faith in the CoOp after at least 3 very poor contacts with the CoOp call centre in Manchester!!! 
The CoOp need an urgent review of the ‘out of hours’ service provided by the call centre at Manchester and I would suggest additional training! 
My experience of the call centre at Manchester left me extremely frustrated and annoyed as the operator simply kept requesting ‘proof of death’ I had no idea what in fact he was asking for so explained that I had just left my dead mums body at the hospital in bed on the ward? But again was asked to provide proof of death! It would have been so much easier for the operator just to ask for a death certificate.
The second contact was a call from the centre to ask what should be done with my mum and where I’d like her taken too, the operator confirmed my mums name but told me she had never heard of the local CoOp funeral home where I had agreed she should rest until her service, at this point I asked the operator to confirm my mums date of birth which she did but it wasn’t my mum, it was another Rita Evans who had passed away in Newcastle Under Lyme where as my mum passed away in Newcastle upon Tyne!! I was horrified to have had to have this conversation with a central call centre that had no idea with whom they were dealing with, hence my disappointment with the CoOp! However when I was contacted by my local funeral director Chris Anthony and his team  mainly a lady called Jackie my confidence was restored!
So please CoOp look into the level of service provided by your central call centre as it’s pretty poor.

Absolutely fantastic service from Ian and his team from start to finish. Ian was professional, reliable, kind and very helpful with the whole process. He made our family smile with his humour at a time when it was most needed and he was very respectful towards all of us, including my late grandad. At the end of the service, as we were leaving, Ian gave me a flower from the flower arrangement on my Grandad's coffin and this really touched me. A thoughtful act of kindness that will forever be appreciated. My family thank Ian so much for the outstanding service he gave my Grandad and the support he gave us.

I have dealt with the Co-op twice especially Jackie she is absolutely fantastic and so caring and full of information and told us after we had picked up Stephen's ashes if there was any help that we further needed just needcto get in touch. I would seriously recommend the Co-op to anyone I cannot fault them in anyway. Please pass on outcgrateful thanks to Jackie and all involved

Amazing service from the Co op funeral care in Benwell, Newcastle. From my initial call right through to the funeral, the support and guidance has been fantastic. Richard is an excellent manager who looked after us during the most difficult time. His care, compassion and empathy shone throughout and we cannot thank him enough.
