Very helpful service and respectful interaction with both Fiona in the office and the Funeral Director, Ian. Everything on the day was exactly as we requested. Thank you!

Everything turned out exactly as planned. The undertakers in the kind were kind and caring without being too intrusive. They looked after all of us.
Everything was checked in a phone call the day before and they were happy to answer any questions we had. Of particular help were Audrey and Fiona in the Beith office, and Declan the undertaker on the day. We were in safe hands and I would recommend this service.

Following the passing of my father in law our family chose Co-op funeral-care in Beith as it was a small local branch.

The initial meeting here with Fiona was fine albeit we felt that having chosen a direct cremation there appeared to be a lack of interest in the arrangements.

Following the booking of the funeral I received at least one call per day, including the day immediately after the booking, asking for the payment to be made. For context the cost of the funeral was to be paid from my father in laws estate as is fairly standard practice however, per many things involving banks, does take some time.

I then continued to receive numerous calls from Fiona ‘chasing’ payment and effectively using me as a go between and informing me I should be contacting the bank and have the payment expedited. The calls totalled around 12 in a little over a week.

I fully understand that a service was being provided and as such required to be paid however to effectively harass a family grieving the sudden loss of a close family member was upsetting and caused additional stress we did not need.

The phone calls became more frequent and, per Fiona’s demands, I had done what I could with regards to contacting the bank who assured me the matter would be settled and I shouldn’t be concerning myself with matters which should have been dealt with by the Co-op directly per their procedures.

My last encounter with Fiona, again following further calls, was a conversation where she was rude, patronising and insensitive. She continually spoke over me refusing to listen and made reference to the funeral having to be delayed through what she deemed as my fault. When I asked to be able to speak freely I was able to do so for only a few seconds before being met with an incredibly patronising and abrupt ‘can I speak now? CAN I SPEAK NOW’.

I’m not sure if the Direct Cremation was what Fiona personally took issue with as it does not generate a high cost or if morally/personally she does not agree with these however the contact and experience I received following booking this was nothing short of deplorable.

At an already difficult and emotional time the harassment and attitude we received from Fiona at the Beith branch caused no end of stress for myself and my family. Should I ever have the misfortune of losing another family member I would not go near Co-op in Beith.

I would say that the contact we had following this with staff at Co-op in both the Irvine & Ayr branches was a far more positive experience. The area manager, Colin, and other team members at these branches were so gracious and empathetic. I only wish we had attended one of these branches from the beginning and avoided the unnecessary drama at an already painful time.
