I will be filling in the review form James Summers Funeralcare has already sent; however, in the meantime, I would like to highlight how impressed we were with Lauren Oatley who guided us through the process from first interview to the day of the funeral. She was thoroughly professional, but with a real personal and caring manner. She was always available to us for queries and clarification, but also proactive in contacting us to update us or to check that we were happy at every stage. This gave us confidence as we approached the day of the funeral itself. A pleasure to deal with her, she served us and represented you so well.

Individual personnel were lovely. Professional interaction with Cari Vaughan / David Williams / Trevor (driver) / Adrian. 

Some observations about process:-

Survey received less than 1 week after funeral by email. Unexpected, untimely, disrespectful.

Rapid and respectful process to take my husband into their care.

2 week wait for service very long by Italian standards. But Adrian expedited at a time of high demand.

Cari very understanding and attempted to honour all my requests. Unfortunately she was on leave at the time of the actual funeral. I understand, but it would have been good to have continuous contact or meet Mr Williams in advance.

No contact from Summers by late afternoon on the day before the funeral. I had to call and request a conversation with Mr Williams. Advised he would call by 6pm. Quite late if there were any last minute concerns.

Cari worked really hard to develop order of service & I am very grateful to her. However page 4 of the final booklet was unsatisfactory. Photos were not straight and we're unclear due to over exposure at bottom of page. Visible lines from original scan.

Historically the Newport Road funeral home has been well maintained this is no longer the case.

No receptionist, so have to ring a bell and wait - not a welcoming process.

Front door covered in notices / adverts - felt like an inappropriate commercial advertising enterprise.

Building exterior and grounds in poor state of repair. Dirty. Litter. Overgrown garden. Statues partially hidden. Peeling paint. Dirty dusty front door. Rust on metal seats outside entrance. Overall very poor state of repair and maintenance. This caused me great distress . If the public areas are so bad - then what conditions was my husband held in? 
Interior smells old & damp. We have had generations of funerals there - but conditions have deteriorated greatly. I would think twice before using this location again.

Actual funeral was as agreed.

Post funeral I received a letter outlining charges and final date for payment. Totally inappropriate as services were paid in full in advance. Called to question this - told it was automated process, and if I read the final page it would show a zero balance . Very upsetting - why can't you issue a letter saying thank you for payment. Automated and insensitive made me feel like I was on a conveyor belt - belittled previous personalised care from Cari Vaughan.

So in summary - your staff are lovely. But your premises are a disgrace and in need of investment by Co Op.

We as a family can not thank James Summers Funeral Home enough for all the kindness and courtesy they showed us throughout the time we dealt with them, especially David Williams who kept us up to date every step of the way. They were professioal and comforting throughout our difficult time.They reassured us that everything my mother wanted she would get, every wish was taken care of to the last detail. They supported us throughout the funeral and helped to make the experience bearable. We could not have dealt with it without their support, compassion and organisation. We would highly recomend them and when the time comes we will use them again.

The care and compassion and detail to organise the funeral of Hussein was perfect especially the communication and care from Maureen. Pressure and worry was taken away from our family but we knew Hussein was taken care of. Our aim was to celebrate Husseins life and Maureen helped us do this and attendees of the funeral all commented what a beautiful send off Hussein had.

Our funeral director was excellent: sensitive and thorough, quick to answer queries, and extremely efficient. The funeral couldn't have gone better. He was particularly good at dealing with the bereaved parent, aged ninety, making sure that she understood all the options and was not rushed into hasty decisions. Very strongly recommended.
