On the whole we were extremely pleased with the services of A.W.Lymn in Derby. The pick-up to the crematorium was delayed through no fault of A.W.Lymns but we was a little surprised that a photo board to be set up at the crematorium was not with the cars and the lead undertaker was not aware that he should have it nor was he aware that the 'order of service' pamphlets, to be distributed on seats at the crematorium, was not with them. Fortunately due to the delay, created by others, these items were hurriedly delivered to the crematorium and dealt with accordingly, had there not been a delay and a query made, they may not have been there at all. Prior to the funeral I was contacted to check if everything was as we wished this included the picture and order of service pamphlets so somewhere along the way there was a breakdown of communication. A request for a choral version of 'shine Jesus shine' had been made and a copy of the Chester Cathedral choir singing this song played to me over the phone. this was not the version played at the crematorium which was totally instrumental, being a not so well known hymn, it was a bit embarrassing as people didn't know when to start singing.
Other than these minor episodes we thought it was a job well done, thank you.
A.W. Lymn's Derby office was originally opened by funeral director David Meek in 1986 and the premises are located in the City Centre, at Derwent House, on Becket Street.
The office features garaging for a new fleet of Rolls Royce Phantom cars and also displays a hearse from the 1890’s. Derwent House includes a reception, off-street parking, a family room, a visitation room, cold room facilities and washing facilities for Asian and African / Caribbean funeral rites.
Kevin Hall, the senior funeral director who manages the surrounding area, has been with A W Lymn since 2003 and is aided at the branch by funeral director Neil Reeves and funeral arranger Greg Martin.
The office opening hours are 9 am to 5 pm from Monday to Friday, and 9 am to 12.30 pm on Saturday. You can call anytime of the day, seven days a week to schedule an appointment outside of these hours if you would prefer.
This branch covers Derby city centre and its surrounding areas including Allestree, Alvaston, Belper, Breadsall, Chaddesden, Darley Abbey, Duffield, Littleover, Mackworth, Markeaton, Osmaston, Pride Park, Sinfin, Spondon and beyond.

Thank you for your general positive but honest review of our service. Having spoken to Derek, your Funeral Director, he has honestly informed me that the photo board and Orders of Service should have been delivered to the Crematorium directly, but were not until you reminded him of this. I can only apologies for what could have affected the service badly on another day. Dan Barnes who arranged your music however, expressed surprise at your message, as we were unable to obtain a choral version of the song and he tells me this was communicated to your sister some days before the service. I do not know what was played over the phone, or by who, but clearly some breakdown in communication has occurred.
We do take all criticism seriously, as we try to improve where things have not gone as well as they might. Both Derek and Dan join with me in offering our apologies for the issues that arose, and thank you for the generally good appraisal of the service as a whole.

I am would like to thank them for all the support and help throughout. They were fantastic on the day and very helpful through what was not only a stressful time but a learning curve as it was the death of my father and the first funeral I have had to organise.

I chose A W Lymn because I thought their website looked very professional and the service my family and I got from Pippa and Kevin supported that thought. Pippa was professional and explained everything clearly and in detail, nothing was too much trouble.Kevin was professional and thoughtful on the day of the funeral, allowing us the time which we needed to begin our grieving process.Stephen Wakeling conducted the "Celebration of Life" in a very empathic manner. We would highly recommend this funeral company.
