Having never organised a funeral before I was uncertain what to expect. As I don’t live in Derby my first contact was with Greg by phone, when we met I immediately had a rapport and felt comfortable asking him anything. Everything was handled professionally and sympathetically by Greg when planning it all and then by Neil and the rest of the team on the day. All mums’ wishes came to fruition and for that I am extremely grateful.

Greg, our primary arranger, went above and beyond to ensure my father’s funeral really reflected him and his life. He was always there to answer all my questions, big and small!

A.W. Lymn's Derby office was originally opened by funeral director David Meek in 1986 and the premises are located in the City Centre, at Derwent House, on Becket Street.
The office features garaging for a new fleet of Rolls Royce Phantom cars and also displays a hearse from the 1890’s. Derwent House includes a reception, off-street parking, a family room, a visitation room, cold room facilities and washing facilities for Asian and African / Caribbean funeral rites.
Kevin Hall, the senior funeral director who manages the surrounding area, has been with A W Lymn since 2003 and is aided at the branch by funeral director Neil Reeves and funeral arranger Greg Martin.
The office opening hours are 9 am to 5 pm from Monday to Friday, and 9 am to 12.30 pm on Saturday. You can call anytime of the day, seven days a week to schedule an appointment outside of these hours if you would prefer.
This branch covers Derby city centre and its surrounding areas including Allestree, Alvaston, Belper, Breadsall, Chaddesden, Darley Abbey, Duffield, Littleover, Mackworth, Markeaton, Osmaston, Pride Park, Sinfin, Spondon and beyond.

This is the first time we have experienced the loss of a loved one so close to us and being involved with planning a funeral. Kevin took care of everything and involved us all the way. Giving us information and any actions that we needed to do. The kindness and compassion we received was exceptional. Kevin handed over to Neil who we met on the day of the funeral. He introduced himself and lead us to the car. We felt like VIPS in the Rolls Royce. He treated us with dignity and respect.Showing his respect to my Dad on his final journey. I saw Neil walk with my Mum holding her arm to reassure and support. That was nice to see.We couldnt have asked for a better service and we thank you both.

Right from the start this was an event I was uncomfortable in taking part in. However, Neil and his team were friendly, understanding and so compassionate that I soon soon relaxed, listened to what was being explained and my anxiety disappeared.
We (the family) are so happy how the funeral was organised and so smoothly carried out. Nothing seemed to faze this team; they are the ultimate professionals and a credit to Lymns. Neil, Kevin and Greg are the men we met and each and every one was courteous, helpful and kind. Thank you for your skills and empathy. From our first contact with A.W.Lymn Derby we felt fully supported through the difficult process of arranging our Mum’s funeral. We were treated with care and compassion throughout. We felt we were in safe hands especially when we met with Greg our funeral arranger. He assessed our needs perfectly and provided an amazing service personal to us. He listened to some concerns we had and advised he knew the best person to help. Greg introduced us to Fr Liam who was amazing.Greg found the perfect solution for our issues for which we will be eternally grateful. Neil led the funeral on the day and prepared us well for how things would proceed with care and kindness. All staff at A.W.Lymn were professional and caring. Highly professional, compassionate and understanding from start to finish. We had the good fortune to have Greg deal with the organising of my brother’s funeral. Anthony brought him to the service. Everything was perfect. Lymns kept me informed and helped me all the way through the funeral of my husband. My husband wanted an unusual ceremony and Lymns were happy to go along with our wishes and at the end of the day we had many compliments.

Greg and the whole team were kind/understanding/sympathetic and respectful towards us following the loss of our Father. Nothing was too much trouble and they made the process stress free- this leaves us with good memories of arranging his final farewell. Words can't describe the way I feel. People always say nobody is perfect. But for me these funeral directors are. They were outstanding very compassionate caring and kind. I know its their job but they made me feel so special they took great care of my mum she looked so peaceful and beautiful at rest.
From the very first meeting with Greg at the office to the heart wrenching final goodbye they were there patiently. This was so touching and soothing as I felt there was no rush and this above everything helped me cope better
Kevin took the time to introduce himself and listened so patiently There are many things to say and I know this review is very long but I can't stop writing and remembering.
The celebrant, Claire was so good at writing that it felt like she knew my mum she took great care to get everything just right. I dreaded going to see my mum in her coffin as I didn't want to say goodbye but Greg made it better there were candles and I remember thinking my mum loved candles I wish she could see them silly I know. Then the dreaded moment of seeing mum it was a shock because she looked so peaceful I had expected she would have a pained expression. I had asked that she have subtle makeup and her red dress and she had been dressed and everything to the smallest detail had been done. This was a great comfort to me as
it will remain in my mind forever. This is what is makes Lym funerals in my mind perfect and outstanding. I will forever have that beautiful image of my mum on my mind.
The funeral is too too hard to write about but it's important for me to say if your looking for your sad day to be as perfect as possible please choose these. They care its more than a job I know lots say this about funeral directors nurses doctors and others in caring professions but I felt cared for and I can't find any words to express this
