Lodge Hill Crematorium
About Us
Lodge Hill Crematorium is located in the Selly Oak area of Birmingham, on a site of just over 61 acres. As well as traditional graves, the crematorium also has a babies and children’s memorial garden - Acorn Hollow - located near to the rose garden. The garden is a quiet place for visitors, and home to several hand-carved deer and rabbits.
The crematorium was opened in the 1930s, and was Birmingham’s first municipal crematorium. The crematorium was designed by the architect Holland W. Hobbiss. The crematorium also has a waiting room and a special room containing a Book of Remembrance, as well as scattering lawns that were landscaped in an orchard setting with terraces. The terraces were later remodelled during the 1990s to accommodate newer kinds of memorials.
The crematorium is wheelchair friendly, with disabled parking spaces in the ample car park, disbaled toilets inside, and a hearing loop in the chapel.
From January to April and October to December, the crematorium is open between 8:30am and 4pm. From May to September it is open from 08:30am to 4:30pm. On Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays, the crematorium opens from 10am to 4pm between January and December and from 10am until 5pm during all other months.
